Macintosh, MSDOS and Windows use different coding schemes for caracters. That's the reason why you may get weird signs in your text if the original one contained some accents like the grave accent. For instance, "à" is coded with the number 136 on a Macintosh, 133 under MSDOS and 224 under Windows.
TEXT<-> .TXT Converter can be used to convert documents containing only text from Macintosh format to DOS or Windows formats, and vice-versa.
NB: If you convert a SimpleText document containing images (like this Read Me file), you won't find the images anymore in the converted document. With other words, any resources are not copied to the new file, because resources as defined on a Macintosh do not exist on a PC.
What about the Euro € currency symbol ?
If you can see the Euro in the above title, then you may be interrested by the fact that TEXT<-> .TXT Converter supports the Euro symbol !
Under MacOS and Windows 95/98 one seldom used character has been changed in order to display the new Euro symbol. For that reason the conversion of the Euro symbol is optional.
Limitations: On a Windows NT system, the Euro symbol is coded only in fonts using the Unicode character set. So, only applications supporting Unicode can display it under Windows NT.
TEXT<-> .TXT Converter does not allow yet any conversion from or to a Unicode coded text.
What about problems ?
Some characters displayed on a Macintosh cannot be displayed under Windows and vice versa.
Such characters are replaced by an underscore ( _ ) during conversion.
How do I convert a text ?
1a. Drag the document you want to convert on TEXT<-> .TXT Converter or
1b. Open TEXT<-> .TXT Converter and choose the command "Convert text file..." from the "File" menu (O) and select the text document you want to convert
2. Select your conversion options
3. Choose a place where to save the new document
That's all !
How much does this cost ?
Nothing ! You can use TEXT<-> .TXT Converter for free.
But... if you wish, you can use the Register application to send me some donation…
